Sunday Riding and Driving! :D
Citroen CX
This is local, it’s a Ford Model A I believe.
The new Yamaha Ténéré 700

Holy crap, that’s a Citroen CX! Not something I would ever expect to see just driving around. Is that a local? I current;y have a couple of CXs as my wallpaper so I’m a big fan. The only Citroens I’ve seen around here have been 2CVs, and even then only two of them.

It was running a BC collectors plate but this is the first I’ve ever seen it around so maybe it was passing through.
I don’t know if you follow Coldwarmotors on YouTube but Scott in Alta has a few Citroen videos of DS and SM (I found one of a diesel CX, I’m not sure if he has it still) . H e’s a fan.

Believe it or not, there was a private importer of CX back in the day, somewhere in New England. I believe it was called “CX Motors” or something.
The one in this pic, an older one with disc hubcaps and thinner trim, appears to be a private import.

I’ve heard that channel mentioned. I’ll have to look into it. I am a fan too. Such an interesting approach to an aspirational car.

I’ll bet very few of those survived with the salt and difficulty of obtaining parts. Didn’t know that.

I mis-remembered - it was “CX Auto”. Here’s a period promo piece, note the federalized lights:
I suspect a few survived, as these would have been sold to enthusiasts capable of maintenance.

That federalization is, well, something, but it is still a CX. You may be right, since you would know what you are getting into.

They weren’t cheap, not competing with a mainstream car. I haven’t looked, but I bet some are out there, and not insanely expensive.

It would take a very special kind of person to buy one and they aren’t likely to have treated it poorly. Perhaps a higher survival rate than I thought. Parts would always be scarce though.

Citroen people are no doubt kind of special t o begin with, they appreciate the unique and probably have the patience to wait a couple weeks to get a normal part. I can respect it, but old MBs are enough for me lol.

After importing they were quite a premium,
handful were even turned into ambulances.

Guessing you’re in Ontario? Most of the Citroen AutoClub Canada’s member base is in Ontario and Quebec! :)
That CX is gorgeous!

BC, was running BC collectors plate too!

I know lots of those were ambulances in Europe but was that a US spec one? It has the Euro lights and bumper so I don’t think any of these were ever ambulances in the US.

Yes, and I’m not quite sure I have the patience for one. I think I could pull off a 2CV with the large parts network and overall simplicity.
![]() 07/05/2020 at 23:11 |
|
Yeah, a 2CV would be doable - they are fairly cheap, too. Also existed as official imports (along with DS/ID series cars) until maybe the early-mid 60s.
![]() 07/05/2020 at 23:15 |

I’ve not seen a DS/ID and I don’t believe any of the two 2CVs I’ve seen have been USDM models.

That CX is a great find

you are correct. imported 2012. it was with the other vintiage utility vehicle I thought the track used it.

I’ve seen a few DS over the years around here - that’s the PNW. There’s even a Traction Avant I see in my area every blue moon. And like you say, I think all 2CV are likely not USDM, as the are so iconic and not too expensive , they are popular private imports.

The only Citroens I’ve ever seen in person were in museums. I must remedy that one of these days by buying one...

Same here. A 2CV is very high on my attainable classic list. I’ve seen two Citroens in person, both Deux Chevauxes. One a custom bodied “brake” with a Traction Avante inspired hood at a car show and the other stock looking from afar with a cool swoopy yellow paint job.

Okay, you got pictures of that first one, right? RIGHT?
Only problem with 2CVs is that they’re quite a bit pricier than you’d expect. Average values for decent ones seem to be around $15,000. Not the worst price, but definitely not cheap. A DS is what I’d really like, but those are understandably quite pricey. Maybe a CX would be easier to obtain...

It’s a pain on mobile, but here:
Yes, 2CVs are surprisingly pricey once im ported and refurbished, especially for such a basic car. DS would be great too, or an SM for that matter. I've though about the modern C6 too. There are not many Citroens I dislike. The parts supply would certainly be a problem with a CX.

That is fantastic... that nose works very well on a 2CV!

Nice! I
t’s really far from France if that’s the case! :P

Yes, it does. I love the old full grille Citroen emblem. The rear had a basket full of eggs ;)
